Holiday Book Review #2 - A Quilter's Holiday

A Quilter's Holiday: An Elm Creek Quilts Novel, by Jennifer Chiaverini.

The rules for the Holiday Book Challenge say you can read books about holidays other than Christmas if you want, so I read this Thanksgiving book. I'm not a quilter--unless you count my liking to sleep under at least two quilts during the winter--but I still enjoyed the story!

I'm going to introduce a new tradition next year, one that I learned from this book. On Thanksgiving I'll place a cornucopia on the table, and each of us at the meal will place an item in the cornucopia. The item will symbolize something that we're especially thankful for that year. Then at some point during or after the meal, we'll each share what our item symbolizes and why we're thankful for that. I'm excited! Isn't that a neat idea?

Back to the book. This book is one of several in the Elm Creek Quilts Novels series. I think the story would have been easier to follow if I had read the previous books in the series. I had trouble following the story line sometimes and had to go back and see if I had missed something. Also, one of the subplots didn't fully resolve in this book, so it kind of left me hanging. I don't like when books do that, BUT it does make me want to find the next book and read it just to see what happens.

On a positive note, I thoroughly enjoyed reading about the friendships between the ladies in this story! That part was just beautiful as was the sweet love story that unfolds. While this book isn't my favorite book ever, I'm glad I read it. I think you'll enjoy it, too!
